Barclays Guernsey is more than a local branch. We’re part of the community, and we’re proud to support community initiatives across the island.

Action for Children believe every young person should have the support and opportunity they need to reach their potential. To help them achieve their goals on Guernsey, we provide funding for an Outreach Employability Support Worker. Their role is to help the island’s vulnerable young people gain the skills, knowledge and experience they need to find and maintain employment and independent living.

LifeSkills is our programme designed to provide young people aged 11 – 19 with the advice, support and opportunities they need to prepare for the world of work. Staff members deliver curriculum-linked workshops covering people, work and money skills to the majority of secondary schools and colleges on the island. By 2016 we had reached more than 1,000 students through school workshops, and we continually work with local schools to strengthen our partnership with them.

The Channel Islands Student Business Challenge started in Jersey to encourage and support entrepreneurial thinking in young people aged 11 – 15. In 2016, the programme came to Guernsey for the first time, with 20 teams of students taking part. They’re given start-up capital of £100 and the challenge of running their own businesses for ten weeks. We expect to see the number of participants increasing every year.
