Increase in number of SMEs contributes to rising prosperity in Yorkshire and Humberside.

The small business community in Yorkshire and Humberside grew by 1.8% to 23,745 businesses since our 2015 study, the second biggest growth outside London. SME turnover in the region also increased by 3%.

The region saw unemployment drop by 1.4% to 6%, and average earnings rose by 2% to £24,050. GDP per capita increased by 8.5%, outpacing London at 8%.

Yorkshire and Humberside was one of only five regions where the number of millionaires remained static at 28,000 as reported in 2015. The majority of UK regions had a slight reduction in the number of millionaires.
