A simple way into investing is to use funds managed by a professional investment manager.

A managed fund is an easy way to diversify your portfolio, thus spreading your risk without having to research individual investments yourself.

Funds are managed by professional investment managers who constantly analyse the market and can make investment decisions on your behalf.

Features and benefits
  • Varying investment goals

If you are looking for income, growth or exposure to a particular region or industry, you can find a fund to match almost any investment goal.
  • Diversification

Funds hold a variety of assets, which helps alleviate major losses should a single asset lose value.
  • Expert management

Investing with Barclays gives you access to our International Investment Advisers.
  • Greater reach

Managed funds give you access to assets that may be hard to invest in on your own, including overseas investments.
  • Access to money

You are not tied in for any length of time and you can sell whenever you want though you may receive a market value which could be less than you invested. Funds are generally only considered suitable as investments to be held for at least five years.

Things to consider

  • Funds work best as a medium or long-term investment, so whilst you can sell at anytime, you should look to hold them for at least five years.
  • Remember that all investments carry risk. Investments can fall in value and you could get back less than you invested. Investments in currencies other than your own may rise or fall because of changes in exchange rates.
Eligibility

To be eligible for managed funds, you must be

  • A Barclays International Banking client
  • Have £100,000 (or currency equivalent) to deposit and maintain across your International Banking accounts and investments.
