Barclays in Gibraltar
Last year, Barclays announced that it is reviewing its business in Gibraltar and in July 2013, we announced our intention to reduce our presence. Following a thorough review, we made the difficult decision to scale back our operations. We will no longer offer local banking services and as a result, the Barclays branch situated on Main Street will close.
How this will affect customers and clients
In early 2014, Barclays wrote to affected customers and clients individually to explain how the changes we are making will impact them and to update them on the timing of the branch closure, scheduled for the end of January 2015. Until Barclays issues notification, there will not be any changes to existing day-to-day banking services or the counter services customers and clients receive in the branch. However, no new business will be accepted and no new accounts will be opened in Gibraltar*.
In future, Barclays will retain a presence in Gibraltar focussed on supporting current lending and larger corporate and intermediary relationships. While Barclays will no longer provide local banking or local counter services, we may be able to offer services to clients that meet our international and private banking criteria.
Barclays has not taken this decision lightly nor without due consideration for the impact this decision will have on our customers, clients, employees and more broadly on Gibraltar.
We apologise to all customers and clients for the inconvenience and disruption that will be caused as a result of the changes we are making and the closure of the branch.

If you hold an account(s) with Barclays Wealth and Investment Management that is provided from another jurisdiction or if your bank account(s) is held at one of our U.K. Barclays branches, your account(s) will not be affected by the changes we are making in Gibraltar.
* There may be exceptions to this for existing intermediary clients. We will also consider joint and third party requests for existing accounts.
