Valery Gergiev with the London Symphony Orchestra

Barclays is the principal sponsor of the highly-anticipated return of the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) to Singapore for a two-night performance. Formed in 1904, the LSO is regarded as one of the world’s leading orchestras, drawing on an enviable roster of soloists and conductors including world renowned Principal Conductor Valery Gergiev. They last performed at a sold-out concerts in Singapore in 2004.

The Washington Post calls Valery Gergiev ‘a conductor for our time’. Variously described as obsessive, brilliant, magnetic, driven, he is one of the most sought after artists by the world’s top orchestras and opera houses. The concerts also feature award-winning guest soloist Denis Matsuev, regarded as one of the most acclaimed pianists of his generation.

Barclays Sponsors the Bolshoi Ballet in Singapore

Barclays is the supporting sponsor of world renowned Bolshoi Ballet’s return to Singapore after more than 40 years. They will perform Swan Lake from 20-24 November 2013 as part of the Esplanade’s da:ns Festival Series.

Barclays Japan Cup

Barclays is the title sponsor of the Barclays Japan Cup for three years commencing 2013. The event takes place on 31 August to 1 September 2013 and features the only Japanese Polo team in competition at the Singapore Polo Club. It will be televised Asia-wide on FoxSports.

Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) awards

Barclays has been actively involved in celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit since 2009, as a sponsor of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) awards.

The EOY is an annual awards program that honors Singapore’s top entrepreneurs for their contributions to the economy and society. After a decade, the awards program has now evolved into a pre-eminent business award in the local business scene. It encourages the best entrepreneurs to step forward as outstanding role models and take up the challenge of representing Singapore at the annual Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year award in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

The awards uses an international standard of judging criteria for the national awards held in other countries to ensure that nominees compete on an equal footing across the globe. Nominees are assessed according to several criteria, including entrepreneurial spirit, financial performance, strategic direction, global impact, innovation, and personal integrity and influence. Award recipients are selected by a prestigious independent panel of judges made up of leading figures from the Singapore business community, academia and past Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year winners.

The Esplanade da:ns festival continues to be the only festival in Singapore to feature a wide range of dance forms in one event, and it is this diversity and the festival’s high quality programmes that keep attracting audiences from all walks of life to celebrate and appreciate dance every October. Barclays brings Alison Balsom to Greater China

Three-time winner at the Classical BRITs and Echo Klassik Awards, Alison Balsom has cemented an international reputation as one of classical music’s great ambassadors. She’s now ranked amongst the most distinctive and ground-breaking musicians on the international circuit.

She has also been honoured with numerous awards by radio stations Gramophone and Classic FM.

Alison Balsom was last in China performing as a guest soloist at the 2012 NCPA Beijing New Year’s Concert with Lorin Maazel.

In May 2013, Barclays brought her to Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei and Kaohsiung, performing alongside the Scottish Ensemble – the UK’s only professional string orchestra.

Alison performs a wide range of recital and concerto repertoire, from Albinoni to Zimmermann, using both modern and baroque trumpets.
